This week we’re featuring awards and residencies throughout New York and the East Coast that have applications open for the next few weeks.
Open Call: Site:Brooklyn Gallery-The Color Red
Who should apply: All artists experienced in drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, wall mounted sculpture, collage, and video
Deadline: May 2
What you should know: This is the second installment of Site:Brooklyn’s ongoing investigation into color: its meaning, its roles, and place in contemporary practice. The gallery is looking for feature works in all genres and mediums.
Juror: Sara Reisman
Cost: $35 application fee
Residency: Con Artist Collective
Location: Lower East Side, NYC
Deadline: Summer residency is now open
Who should apply: Artists of all backgrounds and levels including painters, illustrators, embroidery artists, and more
What you should know: You have 24/7 access to a studio and great community benefits including art workshops, the business of art lectures, mixers and more. Some of the artists you will be working with include Ian Bertram, Lynn Gal, Bonesy, Wizard Skull, and more. At the end of every season there is an exhibit to present all works that were created in the studio.
Residency: Shellhouse Arts-Summer Session
Location: Roxburry, New york (Catskills)
Who should apply: Artists and designers who in all visual mediums
Deadline: April 28
What you should know: Artists and designers with no or little previous professional art experience are invited to create and imagine new works in a communal space in the Catskill mountains from July 27- August 11. You will have access to the five acre property, resources for the Catskills community, and group critique sessions. Each artist is required to leave a piece of work at the completion of the program.
Cost: Free lodging
Previous Artists in Residence: Lucinda Dayhew, Chen Wang, River Koelo
Exhibition: Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts & Sciences-Works on Paper
Award: $500, $250, and $100 prizes available
Location: Long Beach Island, New Jersey
Deadline: April 26
Who should apply: Artists specializing in drawing, painting on paper, prints, photography, digital works on paper, and paper constructions that can be wall hung based in the US
Application cost: $35
What you should know: The exhibition welcomes entries of works created on paper within the last two years.
Juror: Dr. Louis Marchesano
Notable previous awardees: Jill Lear, Elena Peteva, Fidalis Buehler
Open Call: Philadelphia Sculptors & Independence Seaport Museum: Flow
Who should apply: Sculpture artists from the US, Mexico, Canada, South and Central America
Deadline: May 1
What you should know: This fall, an exhibition of floating sculptural installations at the boat basin of the Independence Seaport Museum at Penn’s Landing on the Delaware River will be exhibited as part of an initiative between Philadelphia Sculptors and the Museum. Artists of all backgrounds will create works that respond to the river.
Cost: $30 application fee
